Take Top Honors At
National Talent Pageant!
Seven local ladies just returned from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where they won many awards in the Sunshine World Talent Finals. They spent a week competing in various events, including talent, modeling and interview, and made new friends from all across the United States.
Under the direction of Toni Fossum, local pageant director, all of these ladies qualified to compete at the Nationals by winning titles at the West Coast Regional pageant held in Auburn last May. Ryleigh, 6, was crowned "Mini International Celebrity", Tessa, 7, was crowned "World Sweetheart", Deleste, 14, was crowned "Junior International Celebrity Princess", and Aileen, 15, won the "Photogenic Sweepstakes" title. All will receive scholarships. Kathrine, 4, and Heather, 12, were crowned "International Sunshine Girl" in their individual age group categories. Ashley, 14, also placed in her modeling, talent and photogenic divisions at the National level.
Two of our young ladies from the California delegation had special honors bestowed upon them. Deleste was honored by being chosen to perform her talent in the National "Talent Showcase". She performed a vocal and violin solo to "Think of Me Fondly" from the Phantom of the Opera. She represented California, along with other ladies representing New York, Michigan, Ohio, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. And the only "standing ovation" of the competition was claimed by 6 year old Ryleigh, after she gave an impeccable performance on her violin.
A lot of fun and sight-seeing was also incorporated into their trip: including visits to Washington DC, Arlington National Cemetery, Philadelphia, Hershey Park and Gettysburg. For more information on qualifying for this national pageant see the "West Coast Regional" page.

CONGRATULATIONS to DELLA!!
The 2005 West Coast Regional
Mother of the Year!
Della was chosen from a group of 7 finalists as the top delegate, after being interviewed in front of a panel of judges, modeling on stage and answering an impromptu question in front of a live audience. Della is a former liason between designers and engineers in the wheel industry. As she was working her way up the corporate ladder, she took time out for a missionary trip to Mexico to deliver food, clothes and toys to different orphanages. It was the missionary trip, that she credits with changing her life. She recalls learning what was "truly important" there, and it was in Mexico, that she met her future husband, John.
John and Della got married in November of 1987. Together, they have 4 children, Isaiah, 5, Josiah, 3, Alexas, 1 1/2, and Elijah, 7 months. Della is now employed with the most important job she will ever have..... a stay at home mom. She and her family live in Auburn and attend Calvary Chapel in Grass Valley.
Gala Of The Heart
Pageant royalty was on hand to help at the 2nd annual Gala of the Heart event in Downtown Auburn. This is downtown Auburn's only annual fundraiser, which boasts live music, dancing, a silent auction, portrait photography and delectable hand passed delicacies.
Funds went to help achieve the Downtown Business Associations goals of "beautifying" downtown, and also went to the Arts Council of Placer County.
Pictured at left are Aileen, Casey and Katie, all Miss Teen Auburn royalty, who greeted patrons and passed appetizers.
Also pictured at right is Deleste, the 2004 Talent Celebrity, who, along with her sister Heather, entertained guests with their musical talents on the piano and violin. These ladies were a great asset to this event, and their volunteer time was much appreciated!
All of these young ladies will represent Auburn throughout the year at various community events. Sponsors of the event were: Chevy's, Auburn Host Lions Club, Fossums International Karate & Kickboxing & Foster Graphics. Photos by Glenn Berg
Congratulations to Marika (At right in red) who recently was the recipient of the
San Francisco Round Table
Public Relations Association Scholarship
She was honored at a special luncheon where she was presented
with a $1,000 scholarship toward the continuation of her education at San Jose

skills and that contagious smile would pay off someday!
